WELCOME
Blasmusik Texas, The Texas All-State German Band, is a
volunteer band comprised of professional and accomplished amateur musicians
from throughout the state of Texas. Our band repertoire is music of
Central Europe, consisting primarily of German, Czech, Alsatian, and Austrian polkas, waltzes, marches and Volksmusik.
Our 45-piece European instrumentation band meets several week-ends a year to rehearse and perform for German-Texan
Fests and similar events. (photo) Blasmusik Texas toured
Europe in 1994 (tribute) and in 1999, and has produced several recordings.
Our primary objective is to bring together outstanding musicians for friendship and to perform the unique German-style
band music for the enjoyment of musicians and audience.
HISTORY
Our band was formed in July, 1993, in Fredericksburg, Texas, for the primary purpose of representing Texas
at a Blasmusik festival (wind band festival) in Germany in 1994. Musicians came from all over Texas to comprise
a Texas All-State German Band named Blasmusik Texas. The home bands of our
members illustrate the diverse cross section of bands throughout Texas in which our musicians participate.
Herbert Bilhartz was selected director of music. Herbert is a former
director of the US Army Europe Band in Heidelberg and current director of the Hermann Sons German Band in San Antonio.
Band officers were elected to administer to the many needs of the new
organization.
Blasmusik Texas first performed July 10, 1993, at the Fredericksburg Markplatz-Pavilion. The enthusiastic
reaction of the audience to the music and the friendship created between musicians was the foundation that continues
today to bring enjoyment to both audience and musician. In 1994 the band had a successful playing tour of Europe
which included Germany, Luxembourg, and Alsace in France. The band returned to Europe in 1999 for another
enjoyable playing tour.
Since our 1994 tour of Europe the band has continued to play for special festivals in Texas including "Night
in Old Fredericksburg" in the old Texas, German town of Fredericksburg and for "Wurstfest" in New
Braunfels which is the largest German festival in Texas. For future performances please check our events
section.
Blasmusik Texas is open to considering requests for playing engagements. If you are interested in knowing
